You can't use a trainer kite to actually kiteboard because it's too small.
Trainer kites are between 1 m2 - 3.5 m2, while full kiteboarding kites are between 6 m2 - 15 m2. The most common kiteboarding kite size is the 12 m2.
Also the type of kite you're going to use on the water is a Leading Edge Inflatable, which is more complicated and a touch tougher to fly than the average foil trainer kite. This is why using them as trainers (even 3 m2 ones) is not common.
If money is an issue, I'd try to find a friend who has a trainer kite that they'd let you fly. It's surprising how much flying a trainer helps when you head off to take your lessons. You'll be able to progress quicker, and probably won't need to take as many lessons (i.e. saving you time and money).
