Lofted and a Broken Rib

by Dave Larkman
(White Salmon, WA)

A few years ago I was learning to kite and got lofted high and smashed on the water and broke a rib. Not fun.

Analysed the situation and decided in the end it was caused by the de-power line breaking free from the cleat and making the kite go from full de-power to full power. The bar had been set up for someone with very short arms or for and expert who did not want a lot of de-power in the bar. As a consequence there was a lot of de-power embedded in the de-power line. Moral of the story is know your equipment and how to set it up.
