Being able to launch your kite alone gives you a major taste of freedom. In the right conditions, you will no longer be dependent on a helper in order to kiteboard (and I'm sure your girlfriend will be thankful!).

There's no point launching your kite alone if you're not going to be able to land it. Being able to self-land keeps you from having to trigger your safety release (to land) and saves your kite any unnecessary wear and tear.
